Blowing our own trumpet. And ever so…

Our B Corp mission began in early 2020, but our plans, along with the world, came to a stop. But the seed was planted and once normality resumed, so did our plans for making ourselves a fairer, greener and better business. Because we are pragmatists, we knew that this would be more of a marathon than a sprint. That’s why when we were first exposed to the assessment questions, which can seem daunting to a small business like ours, we knew that with the right amount of time and determination, we could prove our credibility.
In May 2022, we began engaging with a local B Corp consultant to help drive our mission and our attention to B Corp accredited. By June we had joined the Better Business Act, further strengthening our commitment. We then spent the next seven months on our submission, this meant employing an EMS consultant to help with the technical side of carbon reduction, at the same time as giving each of the team their own areas of expertise to work through.
And on Friday 02 June we gained B Corp Status.
WHY WE JOINED
Why, was never a question.
In 2017, Rumpus was forever changed when we were directly affected by the Manchester Arena tragedy. In the years that followed, struggling with the impact of losing a close team member, we needed a new purpose to reflect how we were feeling as a business.
We started reading about the B Corp movement, specifically about the notion of business as a force for good. This was and always will be our ‘why’.
Once we knew the philosophy was right for us, it took just seven months to be B Corp ready. And we haven’t looked back since.

Making an impact is making a noise
B Corp is not just a tick box exercise, or a certification to flaunt, it is a legitimate commitment. Our team is committed to implementing the B Corp principles in all aspects of our business, from our office practices, stakeholders we work with, our community work and how we treat each other. Simply delivering the required amount of social value as an agency, for our employees, community and environment doesn’t cut it. We are aggressively reshaping every part of our business, to enable us to make a real impact.
WE DEVELOPED OUR OWN EDI POLICY
Practicing and inclusion to cultivate belonging
Doing the right thing means creating an environment that is inclusive of everyone – our team, our clients and all of our stakeholders. The B LONG™ vision is for everyone to feel safe to speak up, knowing that their voice will be heard, their thoughts met with openness and their feelings validated. This involves celebrating our individual differences because we understand that they make us stronger as a team, as a business and as a community.
B LONG™ uses a circular approach of assessment, strategy creation, implementation, integration, measurement and recalibration. It has seen the team collaborate to explore topics around dimensions of difference, discuss current news events that impact different socio-economic groups and collectively create our own EDI mantra. We believe that B LONG™ is the future of how businesses can best cultivate inclusivity.

We launched B Stories – the UK’s B Corp podcast which speaks to businesses about their B Corp Journey.
Three of the team ran the Manchester 10k for the Manchester Children’s hospital.
Rebecca volunteered for Pride in Leadership to support with social media.
Imogen volunteered for String and Hearts which uses music to combat loneliness.
Imogen, Georgie, Callie and Kat abseiled down Trafford Palazzo to raise money for Wood Street Mission.
We launched YAP – a network for ambitious, like-minded young professionals.

As part of our B Corp commitment, we are passionate about helping any business looking to start their own journey to becoming a better business.
