Rumpus was born from a joint passion for wine – and how to sell it. Gareth was already running a successful wine education and tasting business, with Paul the marketing manager at The Co-operative Group for Beers Wines & Spirits. Both educated to diploma level, they spotted a gap in the market for a dedicated PR agency that could combine passion for product with commercial flair.
Rumpus fast established itself as the largest specialist wine and spirit marketing agency outside of London, with clients such as Osborne, Southcorp, Penaflor, Asda, Halewood, Myliko, D&D Wines, Cumulus Wines, Goslings Rum & Brockmans gin, Lamb’s Rum, Kingsland and Salentein.
Perfecting communications strategies meant travelling the world visiting clients and understanding the DNA of individual wineries. A dedicated approach to promoting Romanian wine in the UK resulted in multiple industry awards, with Rumpus credited for resurrecting several producers’ fortunes in the market.
Rumpus is a bold, creative agency, with multiple consultants educated to at least WSET Level 2. We believe in communicating wine at a consumer level, and have developed strong trade contacts over the last 13 years. Whilst agency expertise encompasses both the on and off trade retail sector, working with a variety of consumer clients has given us a true understanding of the UK consumer. As an integrated communications agency, we offer a strategic blend of PR, digital and event marketing services.
Paul is Chairman of the North West Wine & Spirits association, and is heavily involved in promoting education and engagement in wines and spirits in the region.
